The company dates back as far as 1915 – its origins lie with the invention of Frank Donaldson’s first air filter. At the time, Frank Donaldson was a salesman for Bull Tractors in Minnesota in the US. One of his customers had a tractor which repeatedly broke down when working in a dusty field, in response to the problem Frank designed a solution, an air cleaner to protect the tractor’s engine from the dust. With the help of his father and brother, Frank’s invention was designed and subsequently patented. In 2015 Donaldson celebrated its 100th birthday – today the organisation holds over 1800 active patents and supports customers in over 44 countries as well as distributing products right across the globe.
